FEW NPT (National Pipe Taper) and NPTF (National Pipe Taper Fuel / Dryseal) Pipe Taps are engineered for producing tapered pipe threads that form a pressure‑tight mechanical seal, commonly used in air, fuel, hydraulic, and general fluid‑transfer systems.
NPT taps cut a traditional tapered pipe thread where sealing is achieved with thread interference supported by thread sealants or PTFE tape. NPTF taps, however, produce a more precise “dryseal” thread form—designed to seal without extra sealing materials by achieving controlled root and crest contact for improved pressure integrity.
All taps in this category are made from high‑speed steel (HSS), providing excellent wear resistance, heat stability, and performance across a variety of metals, including mild steel, brass, cast iron, and aluminium. Threading geometry follows standard hand‑tap structure: the tapered lead eases engagement and reduces cutting load—consistent with verified taper‑tap behavior.
The size range spans from 1/8" up to 2" NPT, including a 3/4" NPTF option, covering the most widely used pipe‑thread dimensions in workshop, maintenance, and industrial environments.
