The Trade Tools Story
Founded in 1955, Trade Tools Ltd began as a specialist supplier of cutting tools to the metalworking and engineering industries. From the very beginning, our business was built on a reputation for quality, reliability, and service—values that continue to guide us today.
During the 1980s, Trade Tools expanded its reach by opening a store in Wellington, followed by another in Christchurch in the early 1990s. By 2007, our network had grown to seven stores nationwide, cementing our position as a trusted partner to trades and industry professionals across New Zealand.
In 2016, recognising the changing needs of our customers, we made a strategic shift away from traditional bricks-and-mortar retail to focus on building a strong online presence through the Trade Tools website and MyTools platform. This investment allowed us to deliver the same trusted service and expertise, now with greater accessibility and convenience.
From 2018 onward, the business sharpened its focus on high-performance cutting tools, aligning with industry demand for precision and innovation. The following year, in 2019, management acquired the business from the founding family, marking a new era of leadership and growth.
In 2023, Trade Tools became part of Sutton Tools, a global leader in cutting tool manufacturing, further strengthening our ability to provide world-class products and support to our customers.
Today, Trade Tools stands as a company with nearly seven decades of history, committed to supporting New Zealand’s trades and industries with the very best tools, knowledge, and service.
